A Guide to the 7prayers Timetable

  • Step 1

Put into place each time of prayer

  • Step 2

Add the combination prayer times, in which both prayers should be done together.

  • Step 3

Now we have the timetable template. To work out times, you need the time of sunrise & sunset.guide-diagram-for-page-3

  • Step 4

Let’s pick a day to show you how it is done. On 23/03/16, in Worcester, England, sunrise was at 6:03AM and sunset was at 6:28PM.

On this day from sunrise to sunset, there were 12 hours and 25 minutes. This is 745 minutes.

    745 ÷ 10 = 74.5 minutes

We divide by 10 because from sunrise to sunset there are 10 equal shares (see step 5)

74.5 minutes in the allocated time for each prayer and the same for each combination prayer time

For each side of sunrise and sunset the overlapping prayer has been broken into two, so to calculate that time you simply divide by 2. (Daytime hours or nighttime hours).

    74.5 ÷ 2 = 37.25

Put the above allocated times into the timetable. (see step 6 and 7)

Finally calculate in the same way (step 8) the prayer times for Fajr, Isha and Thajut using the time from sunset to sunrise (night time hours) and complete the prayer timetable shown on step 9.

  • Step 5

Why is the length of day dived by ten? This is because sunrise to sunset has 10 equal shares as below

  • Step 6

Calculate the time to the nearest whole number, starting with the half unit for after sunrise and before sunsetguide-diagram-for-page-6

  • Step 7

Fill in the rest of the timetable from sunrise to sunset, totalling to 745 minutes.

  • Step 8

Work out the prayer times from sunset to sunrise, so to calculate Isha, Thajut and Fajr time in proportion to the length of night.

We have divided the length of night by 6 because there are 6 equal shares in the night as below. Two of these sections overlap (before sunrise and after sunset) and therefore become a ‘half’ share. To calculate the half share we simply divide the time allocated for each prayer/combination prayer time by 2.

On the night of 23/03/16, sunset was at 6:28pm and sunrise was at 6:03am. From sunset to sunrise there were 11 hours and 35 minutes. This is 695 minutes.  695÷6= 115.8.

    115.8 ÷ 2 = 57.9 which is half a unit.

  • Step 9

Below in red, the required Rakaats have been added and the time for Fajr and Isha (taken from night time proportions). This is a fully completed prayer timetable from Fajr to Isha for 23/03/16.
